Reading To Toddlers Knowledge Base
Reading and toddlers.? My son (22 months) used to love to read books with me. Lately, he doesn't seem to be as interested in it. The average book we read has about one sentence per page. I'm wondering if now is the time to move on to more complicated books with more words and more of a story line. Could it be that he needs that and it might keep him more interested in reading? His language skills seem to be above average for his age if that has anything to do with it. Also, could you recommend specific books that your child this age enjoys? Thanks very much.
Is anyone out there teaching their toddlers to read? I ask because it was done to me (and I love reading) and when I tried it with my own children it was extraordinarily easy (great fun and a bonding experience too). It certainly persuaded me to become a Primary School teacher (teaching reading is not nearly so easy at 5 years old. You have to work much faster and some get left behind). Does anybody still do it?
How do I start teaching my toddlers to write and read? I have a 2 and 3 year old. They know their basic colors, the alphabet, they can count to 10 in english and spanish. How would I go about teaching them to write? I thought that I would first start teaching them shapes, how to draw them and then start showing them how to write the alphabet, would that be the right order? Any suggestions?
Can anyone provide me with some titles of books for infants(mostly) and toddlers? I have to find books that can be read to infants and toddlers that relate to their everyday experiences. For example, family(big brother/sister, grandparents, family pets, etc.), their environments, food, rest, their attitudes, etc. I am having a hard time finding authors who write about these things for infants-toddlers.

Is it safe to give Belladonna to toddlers? I have read that Belladonna can treat high fever, however, I could not find information whether it could be given to toddlers (2 year old). I just want to know for the future whether it is safe to give to small kids and if not why? Many thanks.
Stay at home mums of toddlers what do you do all day? I am a stay at home mum, well I wotk from home very part time. I have a lot of spare time and I find it very boring, as I'm sure my toddler does oo. We go to playgroup or the park or library once a day, then housework and cooking takes 2 hours, so that leaves 8 hours a day where we are just in the house, playing with the same toys and reading the same books. 8 hours seems like a loong time. So what do you do to keep you and your toddler busy? How can I fill 8 hours a day? I play with her all the time, colouring, reading, stacking bricks, etc but 8 hours a day of doing this is really boring. Especially when we are in the house playing with the same toys over and over

At what age do toddlers STOP talking jibberish? My daughter will be 2 in July. She says little things like, NO, Mom, and Num Nums. But no sentances or even an interest in learning. I took her pacifier away and eliminate TV. Tried reading to her but she just wanted to chew on the books. Am I freaking out too early?

Any other parents of toddlers been through this? My 18 month daughter has been talking since she was about 10 months. In the past month she has started putting words together to make small sentences. Since she has started doing that, all of a sudden she is stuttering a lot and not just when she is putting words together. She used to be able to say bye-bye just fine (since 11 months) but now every time she tries to say it she stumbles on the first b a couple times before she can get it out. She does it with a lot of her words that she has been saying for months now. I have read on the internet about this but most of the toddlers that have it seem to be quite a bit older than 18 months when it starts. Should I be worried or am I just an overprotective mom??? Thanks for all your help! :o)
Juice and flavored milks.. for babies and toddlers? I've read in alot of questions about parents giving their babies/toddlers juice and flavored milk. Juice even fruit juice contains a high amount of sugar that will rot your childs teeth even if they don't have any and even if it is watered down and the same for flavored milks. was just wondering about other parents views on juices and flavored milks for babies/toddlers as my 18month has never had either in his life and not planning on giving any until he is 5 and then only for treats once or twice a week... what do you think?
Were you tested for CMV antibodies by your doctor anytime during your pregnancy? I've read about CMV and the potentially life threatening issues that can occur if a fetus is subjected to it during a mothers pregnancy. I've also read that toddlers in day care are very high carriers, and I have one. How serious and common is CMV? Can anyone really prevent it 100%? Or is it mostly just very unlucky chances of contracting it during pregnancy?
chiropractic care for ear infections in toddlers? My 15 month old son has had an ear infection with fluid buildup for the past month and a half. He's on his third course of antibiotics (which gave him diarrhea and a horrible rash) and the pediatrician said that if these antibiotics don't work then he will see a ENT who will probably suggest putting tubes in his ears. I believe that there are alternative remedies and surgery would be a last option for us. I have been doing some research and read that chiropractic adjustments have been successful for many children with this problem and I'm just wondering if anyone can give me any more info or tell me of any personal experience? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
Do asthma medicines contribute to tooth decay in toddlers? i have read mixed reviews on the site, has anyone had the same experience using inhalers? also, my son takes a lot of antibiotics and tylenol which are very sweet. My son has 5 cavities and he is 3 and the dentist says it is because of all the medicine he is having.
Reading to a young toddler? Does anyone else have this problem?? Everyone says, "read read read" to a toddler to help their development and such. Well, my daughter is 15 months old and her attention span is....well....not there. I try to read to her at least two times a day, and it ends with me just reading it to myself while she's struggling to get off my lap, playing with my cell phone, or picking my nose for me (which I greatly appreciate). I power thought it even though she is paying no attention to my eloquent reading abilities. Does anyone else deal with this? When should I expect she'll actually be interested in her books?
How many hours of TV do your kids watch? I have a 3 year old daughter, and I read that toddlers should not watch TV more than 1 hour per day. How many hours do you kids watch?...and what is there age?
