Reading with Children

Can anyone recommend the best method to improve reading speed without sacrificing comprehension?

Any students, attorneys, or others who are required to read large amounts of material have any advice to give on this subject? I'm looking to improve my speed reading but really don't want to have to spend $100 or more on programs to improve it. Any ideas?
